Towards a Shared Agenda for Strengthening the Pan-Amazonian Socio-Bioeconomy

Fundación Aliados, in partnership with the Instituto Conexsus of Brazil and with funding from IDB Lab, is part of AmazonBeEco, a regional project that supports 100 community bio-businesses across six Pan-Amazonian countries: Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Peru, and Suriname. Its goal: to strengthen local economies that contribute to territorial development with identity and sustainability.

In Ecuador, the project began with a thorough mapping of Amazonian bio-businesses and productive associations. This process helped identify their challenges, capacities, and priorities in order to design technical and financial solutions tailored to their realities.

As part of this stage, from May 28 to 30, 2025, the city of Tena will host the First Workshop on Amazonian Bio-Businesses and Associative Enterprises. This event will bring together representatives from various ventures to:

  • Present the results of the national mapping.

  • Identify technical assistance and financing needs.

  • Create collaborative networks among actors from across the Amazon region.

  • Move forward towards a shared agenda to strengthen the Amazonian socio-bioeconomy.

Prior to the workshop, technical visits were conducted to participating bio-businesses in order to gather information about their organizational structures, productive capacities, commercial relationships, and operational conditions, including visual documentation of their environments and processes.

At the regional level, AmazonBeEco has a total investment of 7 million dollars aimed at boosting community ventures in the six participating countries. The project aims to benefit 8,000 families, cover 400,000 hectares of sustainable management, and increase the annual income of supported businesses by up to 30%.

For Fundación Aliados, this Pan-Amazonian alliance represents a key opportunity to incubate bio-businesses that combine economic development and conservation in the Amazon. AmazonBeEco creates unique conditions to share efforts and lessons learned through a powerful regional alliance that is transforming the way business is done in the Amazon.
